Professions Adopt Common Stance On Urban Flood Risk

PROFESSIONS ADOPT COMMON STANCE ON URBAN FLOOD RISK

Professional institutes, including planners, came together after the floods of 2007 and the subsequent review of flood risk by Sir Michael Pitt and agreed to produce a common, joined up policy on the management of flood risk in urban areas. The policy statement has now been published with the support of the RIBA, RTPI, ICE, CIWEM, RICS, RUSI and the Landscape Institute.

Government response to the Pitt Review

The Government has issued its response to the Pitt Review – http://www.defra.gov.uk/environ/fcd/floods07.htm http://archive.defra.gov.uk/environment/flooding/risk/floodreview2007.htm

The Government has also announced that private sewers are to be transferred to water and sewerage companies. This will affect some areas in Thatcham where the sewerage system beyond property boundaries has never been adopted – I don’t know where these all are but I think Loundyes and Matthews Close will be affected and possibly the unadopted surface water sewer system on part of the Dunston Park estate. This matter will be referred to the Thatcham Flood Forum so it is clear what parts of Thatcham are affected.
