This is updated information from OFWAT regarding action proposed by Thames Water in the vicinity of Northfield Road. It shows that persistence over the problems in this area are beginning to pay off.
As agreed during our discussion, please find below Thames Waters forward plan in relation to the issues in Northfield Road.
- For completion by end of August – Topographical survey including, survey of key wastewater assets, spot height measurement of carriageway and properties in Northfield Road
- For completion by end of September – Refinement of network model to include information gained from topographical survey and re-visit of model’s calibration to take account of any changes brought about by new data.
- For completion by end of December – Infiltration survey; it is intended to survey key manholes on the network with a view to identifying potential sources of groundwater infiltration that may be impacting upon network performance. This work needs to be undertaken later in the year when the conditions i.e. groundwater levels are sufficient to perform this activity.
Final model refinement. Should infiltration be detected as part of the investigations it will be necessary to assess benefits for infiltration reduction versus sewer enhancement works. It is intended these final investigations using the model will run in parallel with the infiltration surveys to help target the site activities.
Thames Water has agreed to communicate with customers and key stakeholders affected by each of the above works on a regular basis. The company has also encouraged customers to contact them should they require any further information relating to this matter.
As mentioned previously, at this stage, any further regulatory involvement is unlikely progress matters beyond the commitments already provided by Thames Water.
